The Christmas Cards' History

Image
Christmas Cards The Christmas card is without a doubt the most sent greeting of the year. But the Valentine's Day greeting came long before the Christmas card. It can be traced all the way back to the 1400s. The first official Christmas card was first sent in 1843 in England and it depicted a family in a cosy setting drinking wine. The first Christmas cards rarely had Xmas as a theme on the card. Instead they focused on the coming of Spring and showed pictures of flowers, animals and children. The British Royal family also began sending out Christmas cards in the 1840s. Here Queen Victoria focused on the things that had happened in the family the previous year. The Christmas card quickly became very popular in various circles in Europe and in 1875 the German immigrant Louis Prang started the first series of American Christmas cards. A few years later Prang was producing over 5 million Christmas cards for the USA. The Christmas card has been a colossal success since then but today t...

I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus

I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus T. Connor (c) 1952 I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus Underneath the mistletoe last night. She didn't see me creep down the stairs to have a peep; She thought that I was tucked up in my bedroom fast asleep. Then, I saw Mommy tickle Santa Claus Underneath his beard so snowy white; Oh, what a laugh it would have been If Daddy had only seen Mommy kissing Santa Claus last night. Funny Christmas Carols

Image
Funny Christmas songs are common and fairly popular, especially with the younger generation. However, it was not always like this. Christmas songs have a history going back centuries. In fact, back in 129 AD, a song called "Angel Hymn" was recommended by a roman Bishop to be sung at Christmas services. It was, arguably, the first "Christmas song." Other songs were written soon afterwards, but most of them were written in Latin, something that common people couldn't understand. Thus the songs went fairly unappreciated and sank into oblivion. Christmas Snow Scenes

Snow, Ice and Christmas often go together, although why it should is a bit strange! There is no snow or ice in the Christmas story told in the Bible. However, snow does fall in Israel. Bethlehem and Jerusalem are on a range of hills that go north to south between the Mediterranean Sea and the Jordan valley. The top of these hills are about 1600 ft (500 m) high. The hills often have very cold weather from November to April and snow can often fall. So, although the Bible story may not have snow in it, Jesus may well have seen some snow in his life! Christmas Recipes

Chestnut and Hazelnut Cake Recipe The recipe for this beautifully moist Chestnut and Hazelnut Cake appears exclusively (with permission) from A Year of Family Recipes (pub. Bettys and Taylors, RRP £25) by Lesley Wild. The book (read review) is the first produced by Bettys, the famous Yorkshire tea shop. This cake comes from Switzerland where sweet chestnut trees grow in profusion, particularly in the south of the country around the lakes of Maggiore and Lugano – where Switzerland meets Italy. It would make a perfect treat for Christmas supper. Chestnuts, in both countries, are often dried and ground into flour which is then used in baking during the winter months. Chestnuts are not only low in fat and calories, but high in vitamin C and potassium. They also contain significant amounts of vitamin B. Because it is so rich, Lesley Wild says that she prefers not to decorate it with icing – a light dusting of cocoa powder just finishes it off. The texture of the cake improves if it is kept ...

A Christmas tree, Yule tree or Tannenbaum (German: fir tree) is one of the most popular traditions associated with the celebration of Christmas. It is normally an evergreen coniferous tree that is brought into a home or used in the open, and is decorated with Christmas lights and colorful ornaments during the days around Christmas. An angel or star is often placed at the top of the tree, representing the host of angels or the Star of Bethlehem from the Nativity story. Christmas Tree Pictures Christmas Tree Pictures

Lyrics to christmas songs

A Baby Just Like You John Denver, J. Henry (c) 1975 The season is upon us now A time for gifts and giving And as the year draws to its close I think about my living The Christmas time when I was young, The magic and the wonder, But colors dull and candles dim, And dark my standing under O little Zachary, shining light You've set my soul to dreaming You've given back my joy in life And filled me with new meaning A Savior King was born that day, A baby just like you, And as the Magi came with gifts, I come with my gift too That peace on Earth fills up your time, That brotherhood surrounds you. That you may know the warmth of love, And wrap it all around you It's just a wish, a dream I'm told From days when I was young Merry Christmas, little Zachary Merry Christmas, everyone Merry Christmas, little Zachary Merry Christmas, everyone All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth Every body stops and stares at me These two teeth are gone as you can see I don't know just...

Frosty the Snow Man

Frosty the snowman was a jolly happy soul, With a corncob pipe and a button nose and two eyes made out of coal. Frosty the snowman is a fairy tale, they say, He was made of snow but the children know how he came to life one day. There must have been some magic in that old silk hat they found. For when they placed it on his head he began to dance around. O, Frosty the snowman was alive as he could be, And the children say he could laugh and play just the same as you and me. Thumpetty thump thump, thumpety thump thump, Look at Frosty go. Thumpetty thump thump, thumpety thump thump, Over the hills of snow. Frosty the snowman knew the sun was hot that day, So he said, "Let's run and we'll have some fun now before I melt away." Down to the village, with a broomstick in his hand, Running here and there all around the square saying, Catch me if you can. He led them down the streets of town right to the traffic cop. And he only paused a moment when he heard him holler "S...

Christmas For Cowboys S. Weisberg (c) 1975 Tall in the saddle we spend Christmas day Driving the cattle on the snow-covered plains. All of the good gifts given today; Ours is the sky and the wide open range. Back in the cities, they have different ways, Football and eggnog and Christmas parades. I'll take the blanket; I'll take the reins; Christmas for Cowboys and wide open plains. A campfire for warmth as we stop for the night; The stars overhead are the Christmas-tree lights. The wind sings a hymn as we bow down to pray; Christmas for Cowboys and the wide open plains. It's tall in the saddle we spend Christmas Day, Driving the cattle on the snow-covered plains. So many gifts have been opened today; Ours is the sky and the wide open range. It's Christmas for Cowboys and wide open plains. Christmas In Killarney The holly green, the ivy green The prettiest picture you've ever seen Is Christmas in Killarney With all of the folks at home It's nice, you know, to kis...

Christmas musical

Image
Christmas music or Christmas songs comprise a variety of genres of music normally performed or heard around the Christmas season, which tends to begin in the months leading up the actual holiday and end in the weeks shortly after. Christmas music as a term describes a set of music generally played during the related holiday season, including a large amount of music whose thematic and topical focus is not actually the holiday itself. Often the songs have no content addressing the holiday, but instead focus on wintry or other themes. Many have been adopted to the genre for other reasons, such as the reverential nature of the composition. Ultimately, Christmas music is that which has become associated with the holiday because it.
